About the Designer

Julie Liu gave up her career as a successful hedge fund manager to follow her passion as a jewelry designer in 2009. Trained in quantitative finance with a bachelor's degree from University of California, Berkeley and an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, Liu has the business side of the jewelry business under her belt. After realizing that art has always been what had carried her through the tough times, Liu created the brands Mia Pezzi and TZEN. Jewelry Stolen in Second Forced Entry Burglary

More than $7,500 in jewelry was stolen from a Downers Grove home after an intruder pried open a back window and ransacked the place, Downers Grove police said Thursday.
The incident is the second forced entry burglary to occur in the Downers Grove area in the last week. Two motorcycles and some money, among other things, were taken from a car repair facility that was entered and also ransacked in similar fashion over the weekend.

“You can never say for sure if they are connected, you don’t know,” said Sgt. Dave Bormann of the Downers Grove police, who advised residents to make sure their doors and windows are locked when not home.

“If you are concerned about your safety we can send somebody out to do a home inspection,” he said.

According to a police report, a resident of the 7000 block of Grand Avenue came home to find her belongings scattered about the house. Sensing something was amiss, the resident called police who conducted a search, a report states.

Only jewelry was taken from the home, based on a police inventory of items taken. Items missing include two high-end watches valued at a combined $6,000, police said. Also missing were a number of women’s bracelets valued at a combined total of about $1,200.

Police say they think the house was burglarized sometime between 10 a.m. on Oct. 25, when the woman’s husband left for work, and 7:20 p.m. that same day, when the woman returned home from work.

It appears whoever took the jewelry exited the home through a back door, police said.

Bormann said police have no suspects.
